This special package was designed for those who travel with Danu Enterprises to SE Asia, and may be enjoyed at the beginning or end of the tour. It includes the best of what we discovered in the three years that we offered Cambodia as part of our larger trip package. Unfortunately due to the danger of land mines, extensive touring inside Cambodia is not encouraged. Angkor Wat, surely one the seven wonders of the world is a “must see” for all travelers to Asia.

Cambodia, located in Southeast Asia covers an area of 69,900 SQ. miles, and is bordered by Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, with a population of about 111 million. During the mid to late 20th century the lush rice fields and hamlets of this beautiful and gentle land were ravaged first by B-52 bombers, and later converted into the Killing Fields of the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime. Now Cambodians are slowly rebuilding their country and the ancients monuments of Angkor have been declared safe and open to international tourism. Roads are being resurfaced and upgraded, international hotel facilities operating and international airports functioning, inviting the curious traveler to explore the magnificence of Angkor Wat–the largest temple complex in Asia. Now is time to explore this magnificent site–truly one of the wonders of the world., as the numbers of visitors continue to swell.

Jan. 27 Day 1 | Welcome to Siem Reap
Welcome Cambodia!
Welcome to Siem Reap, the charming gateway to the legendary temples of Angkor and one of Southeast Asia’s most fascinating cultural destinations. Once a quiet provincial town, Siem Reap has grown into a vibrant city while preserving its warm Khmer hospitality and rich traditions.
Upon arrival at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your local guide, who will be waiting in the arrival hall holding a signboard with your name.
Your journey to the city begins with a comfortable 60 km private transfer, taking approximately one hour through the picturesque Cambodian countryside before arriving in the heart of Siem Reap.
This evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner at one of Siem Reap's carefully selected restaurants, where you will be introduced to the wonderful flavors of Cambodian cuisine while your guide provides an overview of the exciting journey that lies ahead.
Return to your hotel for a restful overnight stay.
Jan. 28 Day 2 | Discover Angkor Beyond the Crowds
Srah Srang • Kbal Spean • Banteay Srei • Cambodia Landmine Museum
Rise early this morning and travel through the peaceful countryside to Srah Srang, the beautiful ancient reservoir of Angkor. As the sun rises over the tranquil waters, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful reflections before the day's visitors begin to arrive.
Afterwards, continue to the nearby village of Preah Dak, where a beautifully prepared picnic breakfast awaits. Relax in a traditional village setting while enjoying your hotel's breakfast box accompanied by freshly brewed tea, coffee, seasonal fruits, and local Khmer delicacies.Your journey then continues to Kbal Spean, famously known as the River of a Thousand Lingas. Located within the Phnom Kulen National Park, this remarkable archaeological site features ancient carvings sculpted directly into the sandstone riverbed, hidden beneath the forest canopy.
To reach the site, enjoy a rewarding 2-kilometre hike uphill through the tropical forest, climbing approximately 200 metres in elevation. The trail is well established but includes uneven terrain, natural steps, and rocky sections. After exploring the sacred river carvings and seasonal waterfall, return via the same routewith a 2-kilometre downhill walk, making the total hiking distance approximately 4 kilometres. Alternative Option: Guests who prefer not to undertake the hike may instead visit the magnificent Beng Mealea Temple, an atmospheric jungle temple largely left in its natural state and often described as one of Cambodia’s most captivating hidden treasures. Following the hike, enjoy lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant before continuing to Banteay Srei,
widely regarded as the jewel of Khmer art. Built in the 10th century and dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, this remarkably well-preserved temple is celebrated for its delicate pink sandstone and some of the finest stone carvings found anywhere in the Angkor region.
On the return journey to Siem Reap, stop to visit the Cambodia Landmine Museum, founded by former child soldier and humanitarian Aki Ra. Through powerful exhibits and personal stories, the museum offers valuable insight into Cambodia's recent history and the ongoing efforts to remove landmines while supporting affected communities.
Return to your hotel in the late afternoon and enjoy the remainder of the evening at your leisure.
Jan. 29 Day 3 | Life Beyond the Temples
Wet Market • Village Bicycle Ride • Monk Blessing Village • Village Cooking • Floating Village Boat Ride After breakfast at the hotel, drive to Teouk Vill Wet Market, where local villagers gather each morning to buy and sell fresh produce, meats, fish, and traditional ingredients. Take time to explore the lively market before beginning a gentle bicycle ride through the peaceful countryside.
Cycle at a relaxed pace along quiet village roads, making several stops to experience daily rural life. Meet local families producing Kralan (traditional bamboo sticky rice cake), observe artisans weaving vine baskets by hand, and discover the simple traditions that continue to shape life in the Cambodian countryside. Your cycling journey concludes at Wat Svay Romeat, a tranquil local pagoda where you will be welcomed by a resident Buddhist monk. Learn about the monk's daily life, the principles of Cambodian Buddhism, and the important role temples continue to play within local communities. Before departing, receive a traditional Buddhist blessing ceremony, offering wishes for good health, happiness, and safe travels.
Continue by private vehicle to the Angkor Silk Farm, where you will discover the fascinating process of traditional Cambodian silk production, from silkworm cultivation to weaving beautiful handmade textiles. Next, travel to a nearby village for an authentic Khmer cooking experience at a traditional family home. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by your hosts before taking a stroll through their vegetable garden to learn about the fresh herbs and ingredients used in Khmer cuisine. Then, under the guidance of your host family, prepare several traditional Cambodian dishes before enjoying the delicious meal you have created together.
In the afternoon, continue to Tonlé Sap Lake, Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake and one of Cambodia’s most remarkable natural wonders. Board a local boat to explore a floating village, where homes, schools, shops, and even pagodas rise and fall with the changing water levels. Learn how local families have adapted to life on the water while gaining a deeper understanding of this unique ecosystem and way of life.
After the boat excursion, return to Siem Reap and enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure.
Jan. 30 Day 4 | The Timeless Wonder of Angkor
Ta Prom • Jungle High-Tea • Angkor Thom • Angkor Wat
Begin your day with an early departure from the hotel at 6:30 AM to visit the enchanting Ta Prohm Temple, arriving before the larger tour groups. Famous for its giant tree roots embracing the ancient stone walls, Ta Prohm offers a magical atmosphere and some of the most iconic scenes within the Angkor Archaeological Park. Continue to Ta Keo, the impressive unfinished sandstone mountain temple, before taking a short walk through the forest to the hidden temple of Ta Nei. Here, enjoy Merry Travel’s signature Jungle High Tea, featuring freshly brewed tea, coffee, seasonal fruits, and light refreshments served beneath the tranquil forest canopy. Your journey then leads to the beautifully preserved Victory Gate of Angkor Thom, one of the ancient royal city’s most atmospheric entrances. Enter Angkor Thom and explore the magnificent Terrace of the Elephants, the former Royal Enclosure, the elegantly restored Baphuon Temple, and conclude the morning at the iconic Bayon Temple, renowned for its towers adorned with serene stone faces.
After the temple exploration, return to your hotel for a well-deserved rest and time to relax during the warmest part of the day.In the late afternoon, revisit the Angkor Archaeological Park for an in- depth exploration of Angkor Wat, the crowning masterpiece of Khmer architecture. With your guide, discover the temple’s remarkable bas-reliefs, soaring towers, and fascinating history as the golden light of the afternoon softens across the ancient stones. Remain within the complex to enjoy the sunset before returning to your hotel in Siem Reap.
