A Yoga and Wellness Bali Retreat
December 5 - 18, 2008

Itinerary

Fri. Dec. 5 - Travel days Depart Canada or the USA aboard regularly scheduled Singapore Airlines . Your flight takes you through several meals and free drinks and films. Cross international date line and lose one day, which is made up on your return. Those leaving from the west coast will need to be at the airport the night of Dec. 4.

Day 1, Sat., Dec. 6 – South Bali BL Arrive in Bali. Optional light dinner and evening at leisure.

Day 2, Sun., Dec. 7 – South Bali BD Breakfast followed by welcome remarks. Orientation session (survival Indonesian language and basic etiquette). Guided walking tour of the area. Day free for exploration or shopping, followed by excursion to the southern tip of Bali for sunset at Pura Luhur Ulu Watu, one of Bali's most important sea temples. Guided meditation on site. Group dinner of local specialties.

Day 3, Mon., Dec. 8 - Ubud BD Morning Yoga and meditation. After breakfast, depart for Ubud, Bali's cultural center, On the way, we visit Pura Tanah Lot and have an on-site talk on Bali-Hinduism. Then we move on to the archeological museum in Denpasar, the capital city, for a guided tour and talk on Rites of Passage in Bali. Arrive in Ubud and check into our hotel. Afternoon free. Evening performance of the Kecak and Fire Trance Dance, followed by dinner together.

Day 4, Tues., Dec. 9 – Ubud B Breakfast, followed by visit to the Ubud market with your offering making teacher, followed by a workshop in the making of offerings. Yoga Pranala at Ibah with guest Instructor Linda Madani. After lunch, a guided tour of Neka Museum, Bali's most important art collection, tracing the evolution of Balinese painting. In the late afternoon, enjoy your first traditional massage for which Bali is renowned.

Day 5, Wed., Dec. 10- Ubud BD Breakfast, followed by trekking through small villages and terraced rice fields to Tegal Lalang artist village, where we are met by our drivers. On return, visit Goa Gajah, a 9th century temple and famed 'Elephant Cave.' Afternoon Yoga. Dinner together.

Day 6, Thur., Dec. 11 - Ubud BL Morning Yoga. Breakfast followed by visit to a highly respected Balinese traditional healer, with opportunities for a 'check-up.' On-site talk on local healing practices. Those not wishing to partake can enjoy a Reiki session. Dinner together and discussion of the days events.

Day 7, Fri., Dec. 12 – Ubud BL Breakfast, then early morning departure for Tampaksiring to experience an optional purification ceremony, at Tirta Empul temple in the Sacred Healing Springs. The we visit nearby Gunung Kawi temple and 10th century monuments. In the afternoon take an optional Gamelan music or dance class. Late afternoon sacred circle. Evening performance of Legong dance

Day 8, Sat., Dec. 13-Ubud B We will use this day as a 'swing day.' During your visit you no doubt, will be able to attend at least one special event: a temple festival, cremation ceremony, Rite of Passage ceremony, or other, and we will alter our schedule accordingly.

Day 9, Sun., Dec. 14 – East Bali B Morning Yoga. Breakfast. Depart for East Bali after checking out of our hotel, stopping on the way at Pura Besakih, Bali's ' Mother Temple.' Arrive in Candi dasa for lunch, followed by a visit to nearby Tenganan, Bali Aga (aboriginal) village, where we watch the process of making double ikat (Gringsing) and traditional lontar leaf books. Late afternoon talk on Sad Kahyangan, the four sibling spirits that accompany Bali/Hindus through their lives. Dinner at hotel.

Day 10, Mon, Dec. 15 – East Bali B Breakfast, followed by a snorkeling expedition to view the coral gardens and tropical fish in the 'Blue Lagoon.' In the afternoon enjoy your second massage. Late afternoon yoga, followed by dinner.

Day 11 Tues. Dec. 16– East Bali BL After breakfast and Yoga, we go Cycling in neighboring villages. Lunch at Bali's only Ashram, prepared by the members. Late afternoon sacred circle.

Day 12. Wed., Dec. 17- BD South Bali Yoga and meditation session, followed by breakfast and then transfer to south Bali. Afternoon free to finish up shopping, wander or enjoy a Reflexology session. Last sacred circle: group reflection, evaluation, discussion. Farewell to Bali feast and dance performance.

Thur. Dec. 18– Travel Day BLD Breakfast. Rest and relax before leaving Bali.

Itinerary may change subject to unplanned opportunities. Although no one is required to attend any activities, there will be no refunds for missed activities. Anyone who leaves the tour at any time, for any reason, is on their own.

Roommates:
  • Single people may sign up for accommodations desired on a shared basis
  • Roommates can be chosen from other tour members
  • If a roommate is unavailable, the participant will be notified of the adjusted price for a single supplement

Deposit:
  • A deposit of USD$350.00 per person is due at the time of booking
  • Final payment is due on Oct. 15, 2008
  • Deposit, minus a USD$75.00 cancellation fee, is refundable until 45 days prior to departure
  • After tickets have been issued there is a further airline penalty
  • No refunds will be made after departure

Passport, Visa, and Health:
  • A passport, valid six months from date of entry with proof of onward transportation is required for entry into Indonesia
  • Visa on arrival with payment of a USD$25.00 fee falid for 4 weeks
  • If you wish to stay longer, apply to the Indonesian Consulate where you live for a 2 month visa, prior to arrival
  • No inoculations are required or advised
  • Everyone participating in this trip is expected to be in good health and able to walk at least three miles unaided

 

TRIP ORGANIZER
Madé Surya B.S. is a professional tour organizer and has been leading study tours in Bali for 21 years. He has translated and worked with scholars and educational film and video crews, including National Geographic, and lives in Bali half the year. He was senior research assistant for several scholarly books relating to the Balinese view of the After Death. He is on the advisory board for Sacred Sites International, and has been a contributor to Hinduism Today.

RETREAT CO-FACILITATORS

Born and raised in Bali, Savitri Ingga Talahatu BA, BEd, CYT is a Certified Yoga Teacher (Hatha, Kundalini for Children and Restorative), Reiki Master, Life Coach and Licensed Holistic Practitioner, practising various massage techniques. She has more than 2 decades of teaching experience, having taught in the public system in Toronto and Indonesia, and co-taught Reiki I & II with Lori-Ann Kim at the Holistic Health Program at Seneca College. Savitri teaches Yoga and facilitates Holistic Lifestyle and Empowerment workshops in Toronto.


Lori-Ann Kim MA, RIHR, RYT is a Certified Yoga Teacher (Hatha and Ashtanga), Reiki Master and Registered Psychotherapist in private practice since 1997, using an eclectic holistic approach to psychotherapy counseling. She has been facilitating workshops in Toronto and abroad for over 10 years. Lori-Ann has co-developed and coordinated the Holistic Health Program at Seneca College. She has also instructed several courses, including Psychology, Meditation, Emotional Healing, Chakras, Holistic Health, Pain and Stress Management, Reiki and Yoga.

Both Lori-Ann and Savitri are long time Yoga and meditation practitioners. Their classes are uplifting and poetic, energizing and restorative, suitable for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike. Their philosophy is holistic and client-centered.

Together, they will hold a safe space for you to explore and rediscover your authentic self in the beautiful and sacred island of Bali.
