This tour explores the colorful tribal cultures of eastern and southern India--the least visited regions, yet containing some of the most beautiful scenery, remarkable monuments, and vibrant cultural centers. We explore its important religious sites, markets, and temples, but the crowning centerpiece of this tour is the Festival of Bali Jatra in Orissa, commemorating the early successful, commercial sea voyages of Orissan traders to the islands of Bali, Java, and Sumatra. Small boats, made of banana tree bark and laden with little lamps, float in the water and glitter against the evening sky. Local food, traditional dances and drama, and religious ceremonies make this celebration a memorable one. This exciting journey promises to offer a sensual overload of variety and diversity, from temples, ashrams, and art to food, celebrations, and the healing arts.
